My inspiration is light, and in particular sunlight. I am fortunate to live in Hong Kong, where the sun shines almost every day! For me, it is the play of sunlight and shade on the tropical flora and fauna surrounding us, or the myriad of shapes that occur when light falls on crystal, that captures my attention. The resulting images are almost abstract in nature and sparkle when white is placed next to dark on my watercolour paper. To achieve the depth of colour that I love, I use multiple transparent watercolours, either glazed or placed wet-into-wet. The white is the pure white of the watercolour paper. All of my paintings begin with a series of photographs, and I enjoy travelling to China, Singapore and Australia to capture the wonderful flora and fauna of those countries, as well as that which is abundant in Hong Kong. With my paintings, I endeavour to bring the colour and beauty of nature, which so often goes unnoticed in a busy city, from the outside to the inside.
